Program:
Intellectual Property Valuation

Valuation of a company's intellectual property is often a complicated and inexact science. Various techniques and methodologies exist for valuing intellectual property. Therefore, choosing an appropriate valuation methodology when considering royalty rates for licensing a technology is imperative. This program will evaluate recent trends in valuation methodologies in two particular industries: the semiconductor industry and life sciences industry. The program will include a review of recent case law with respect to damages in these industries.

DIANE M. BARLOW

Casey & Gentz, L.L.P.

Diane Barlow is a Partner with the law firm of Casey & Gentz, L.L.P in Austin Texas. She focuses her practice on issues faced by competitive telecommunications service providers in their efforts to enter new markets with primary emphasis on right-of-way use and compensation issues, wireless siting and zoning issues, inter-carrier billing disputes, customer service disputes, and impact of bankruptcy.

Before joining Casey & Gentz, Diane was with the Office of the Attorney General for Texas in the Financial Litigation Division for 7 years. As Division Chief of the Financial Litigation Division, Diane managed and handled a wide variety of litigation involving financial issues and enforcement of state regulations in the areas of insurance, banking, and securities. Prior to her stint with the AG's office, Diane had an extensive bankruptcy practice at Sidley & Austin in Chicago, Illinois.

Diane earned her law degree from the University of Montana. She is a member of the State Bars of Texas, Illinois, Colorado, and Montana.

RONALD J. EPPERSON

Ron Epperson is a Principal in LECG's Houston office. Mr. Epperson has 22 years of corporate and consulting experience, including extensive experience in intellectual property matters such as licensing, valuation, technology commercialization, academic technology transfer, intellectual property strategy and strategic planning. He has experience in the energy, chemical, biotechnology and aerospace industries as well as with major research universities and academic medical centers. He also is experienced in international joint development and licensing arrangements, with responsibility for deals in Korea, Japan, Germany, Spain, Austria, the United Kingdom and Mexico.

Mr. Epperson received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, summa cum laude. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society, the Houston BioMedical Technology Club and is an associate member of the Association of University Technology Managers. He is currently involved in the Technology Transfer Subcommittee of the Texas Governor's Council on Science and Biotechnology Development.

Cost:
For members of LES who purchase tickets in advance, lunch will cost $20.00. For all others, the cost is $25.00.
