The panelists are:
Don McLellan, Vice President, Mergers & Acquisitions, Motorola
Corp: Don is responsible for Motorola’s mergers and acquisitions,
divestitures and joint ventures throughout the world. Since he joined
Motorola in 1996, Don and his team have successfully closed several hundred
transactions including Motorola’s $17 billion merger with General Instrument
Corporation and IPO/Spin of Motorola’s semiconductor products sector
into Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. (NYSE: FSL). Don is Vice Chairman
of the Motorola Equity Investment Board, an advisory member of Motorola’s
Political Action Committee and a member of Motorola’s University Relations
Board. He is a member of the New York, Massachusetts and Illinois bars and
council member of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Don
received his B.A. & M.A. from the University of Chicago and his
J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
William Moffitt, President & CEO of Nanosphere, Inc.: Bill
has been in the medical device and diagnostics industry for 33 years. His
current company is 6 years old and is developing novel nanotechnology
for molecular diagnostics applications that will lead to significant changes
in the practice of medicine. Prior to joining Nanosphere in 2004,
he was President & CEO of i-STAT Corporation, the pioneer in point of care
testing where he established strategic alliances and research collaborations
with Hewlett Packard and Abbott Laboratories, who ultimately acquired the company. He
began his career at American Hospital Supply Corporation and has spent the
last 20 years commercializing new, innovative technologies that have made significant
impacts on the practice of medicine.
Connie M. Cleary, Associate Director, Office of Technology Management,
University of Illinois, Chicago: Connie has spent the last 6 years
commercializing early stage technologies that range from medical devices,
therapeutics, diagnostics, imaging and software to SiRna’s. She earned
her BS degree from the Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of
New York and her DPM degree from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric
Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. In addition,
Connie has pursued her interest in computers by obtaining a computer programming
certificate. Prior to joining UIC, she had several hospital appointments,
was a member of the five hospital program and a solo practice as a podiatrist.
