This presentation will cover the mission and goals of US national laboratories as well as their methods and processes for managing the intellectual property arising from their work. It will also address the licensing process including decision-making, key stakeholders, opportunity assessment, metrics, and how the funding process works. Successes and challenges will be presented, focusing on practices that have led to success and lessons learned regarding negative outcomes.
Charles Scouten joined The Fusfeld Group as Senior Associate in 1999 after more than 25 years of industrial experience with BP Amoco, Exxon and Xerox. He consults in the technology management areas of Innovation for Growth, Using Networks as a Strategic Management Tool, Valuing Technology for Mergers and Acquisitions, and Technology Integration for Mergers and Acquisitions (planning, implementation). In addition, Dr. Scouten also provides technical consulting services for the process industries (gas/oil, chemicals, energy, food, forest products). Here, his expertise includes Separation Processes (physical, chemical), Reaction Engineering, and Process Troubleshooting. He is active in AIChE and scientific advisory panels to government.
