Best Practices in Technology Commercialization: Delivery and Services

Presented by: Suleyman M. Ozmen, Director, Solutions and Services, UOP LLC

Tuesday, June 14, 2005, 11:45 a.m. at Maggiano's Little Italy, Chicago

This presentation will focus on the importance of delivering and servicing licensed technology in the refining and petrochemical industries. A licensing transaction is successful when the life cycle is managed with success. The presenter will discuss the different stages of technology delivery and focus on services to continuously improve the profitability of the licensed technology. Licensees must focus on optimal use of existing assets and resources (incl. external) while continuously evaluating options in adding new technology and state-of -the-art hardware. Accessing a strong knowledge platform supported by the right experts is needed to close the gap, sustain business profitability and provide flexibility. UOP’s successes and challenges in delivering technology to refining and petrochemical industries will be presented.

Suleyman is the Sales Director for the Solutions and Services Business of UOP LLC, located in Des Plaines, Illinois. He is responsible for the sale of the Services offered by UOP to support its licensee’s operation and the enhancement of their profitability. Before returning to UOP in April 2004, Suleyman was the Global Commercial Manager of BP Chemicals’s Polyolefins Licensing Group. He was responsible for the worldwide licensing and commercial activities of BP’s Innovene Gas Phase Polypropylene and Polyethylene technologies. Prior to the BP - Amoco merger he was General Manager of Amoco’s Chemical Stream Licensing Business.

Prior to his joining Amoco Polymers in March 1996 to form the new Polypropylene Licensing business group, he worked for 18 years at UOP, as group leader in the Experimental Development Department (Riverside, Illinois) in the petrochemical processes development area, as senior marketing executive in Process Licensing in UOP’s London Office, as manager for the detergents, ethers and paraffin dehydrogenation processes and systems development group and Senior Business Development Manager in Process Licensing. Early in his career he worked for three years at IFP (Institut Francais du Petrole) in France as process evaluation engineer. He holds several US patents in the area of olefin processing and is the author of many technical papers in the petrochemical technology area. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and LES.

Suleyman received his master’s degree in physical chemistry from the University of Paris in 1973, his chemical engineering degree from E.N.S.P.M ( Engineering School of the French Petroleum Institute) in France in 1974 and his Executive M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago (USA) in 1996.
