"MedImmune and Quanta" – Practical Implications in Licensing Situations
Troy A. Groetken, of McAndrews, Held & Malloy, LTD, will be addressing the recent Supreme Court decisions in MedImmune and Quanta. His presentation will focus on understanding these decisions and the impact of these decisions on licensing agreements. Additionally, he will be providing practice tips on how to amend or modify clauses to cover these decisions.

"From Mash-Ups to Avatars - Safeguarding Brand and Content Integrity in New Online Uses"
Mark Traphagen, counsel to the International Anticounterfeiting Coalition, will traveling in from Washington, D.C. His topic: “Now that domain names seem old school, along come avatars and mash-ups to make licensing interesting. To get their message through to tech-savvy consumers - and get a leg up on infringers - licensors are experimenting with putting their brands and content to work in fantasy worlds, social networking, and user-generated content, From YouTube to FaceBook to Second Life, this program looks at ways to manage risk and maintain trademark and copyright integrity in new online channels.”

"IP and Antitrust laws - The Illinois Tool Works and Rambus Decisions"
Mildred L. Calhoun is the Senior Antitrust and Trade Regulation lawyer at BP America Inc., and will be presenting on the intersection of antitrust law and intellectual property. Ms. Calhoun was employed by the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, where she worked for almost 17 years. She is also the incoming Chair of the Antitrust & Unfair Competition Law Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. Her presentation will include the above identified recent decisions and key factors to keep in mind when drafting licensing provisions.

"Views from the Bench"
Chief Judge James F. Holderman, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, will be discussing what factors should be evaluated when considering intellectual property litigation, and will share some of his viewpoints from the bench. Chief Judge Holderman has been a United States District Court Judge in Chicago since 1985, and has been the Chief Judge since July, 2006, during which time he has presided over a number of intellectual property cases.
This meeting is being co-presented with our fellow corporate IPLAC members. Vince Egolf, Chair - IPLAC Corporate Committee, and I, invite all of our respective members to this special year-end joint meeting and to what we hope will be a truly exciting event!
