Topic:
Introducing Patents into a Major Service Industry
Our December speaker, Mark Nowotarski, reports that Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) is a major service industry poised to begin a substantial increase in their patent activity. The EMS industry is a 100 billion dollar a year business that produces most of the computers, cell phones and other consumer electronics. It is a technology driven industry with surprisingly little patent protection in place. This is about to change.
EMS companies can obtain considerable value from well-managed patent portfolios, including protection from competition, income from licensing, and stronger relationships with customers.
Mr. Nowotarski will discuss the critical steps to obtaining value from patents. He will include examples of how EMS companies are implementing these critical steps and how this is increasing revenue. He will then present the applicability of these examples to other service industries, such as finance and insurance.
Mr. Nowotarski is the President of Markets, Patents & Alliances L.L.C., a leading provider of consulting services to help clients launch their innovations. Mark is the inventor or co-inventor on 17 US patents and he is a licensed US patent agent. Mark has a Master's degree from Stanford in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor's degree with honors from Princeton in Aerospace, Mechanical Sciences and Engineering Physics. He is an active LES member. Please be sure to join us for this exciting meeting.
