On Wednesday, June 23, 2004 the Fairfield-Westchester Counties Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society and SACIA, The Business Council of Southwestern Connecticut co-sponsored a breakfast meeting from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m at Pitney Bowes Corporate Headquarters in Stamford.
The topic was Intellectual Property Merchant Banking - Leveraging Corporate Intangible Assets. The keynote speaker was James E. Malackowski, the President and Chief Executive Officer of I|C|M|B Ocean Tomo, an integrated intellectual capital merchant bank providing finance, asset management, M&A advisory and expert services.
Jim is a past President of LES (USA & Canada), Inc., an internationally recognized leader in the field of intellectual capital equity management, and a noted expert in business valuation and intellectual property strategy. In his presentation, Jim drove home the point that American companies may be missing out on millions of dollars in revenue precisely because their executives aren't aware of the value of intellectual property and patents.
On June 24th the front business page of the Greenwich Time and Stamford Advocate, two major Connecticut newspapers, was dominated by an article entitled "Patents Worth a Pretty Penny" featuring the LES Fairfield-Westchester Counties Chapter's 2004-2005 Season kick-off meeting. Major local publicity preceded the event and attracted many non-LES as well as LES members from NYC, Westchester and Connecticut, including Board Members of the Association for Corporate Growth.
This meeting was an inaugural and successful alliance between the LES Chapter, SACIA, the Business Council of Southwestern Connecticut and Pitney Bowes Inc. Paula Jellinghaus stated that future strategic alliances, along with a slate of nationally renowned speakers, are in the works for the remainder of 2004 and 2005. Going forward, the Chapter will be working with local press to highlight issues related to intellectual property and licensing, drawing upon the rich knowledge of LES members in the area.
