Title:
Managing Risks of Intellectual Property Defense and Enforcement: An In-House Perspective

The rising cost of litigation and the increased number of patent and other intellectual property suits create administrative, strategic and financial considerations for in-house attorneys charged with managing these cases. In addition to defending against multiple patent and other IP suits, there is also the need to prepare for enforcement activities, and make upper management aware of the financial and institutional costs of such litigations, e.g., lost time, discovery, preparation, emotional drain, professional/expert fees, and a host of other logistical concerns. Further, preparing corporate management for the chance of losing, and otherwise managing the organizational expectations are additional skill sets in-house IP counsel must acquire. As Senior Legal Counsel to Panasonic and in his variety of other endeavors, Kevin has seen a lot and will share his experiences and observations as in-house counsel.

Speaker Bio:
Kevin is currently Senior Legal Counsel to Panasonic Mobile Communications Development Corporation of the USA in Suwanee, Georgia. He was previously Senior Counsel at Glenayre and a Director at BellSouth. He has a bachelors and a law degree from the University of Georgia, and has spoken and written extensively on a variety of topics in licensing, transactions, risk management, ethics and litigation for corporations and universities. Kevin is also active in numerous organizations both in Georgia (State Bar and community) and nationally, e.g., Association of Corporate Counsel (ACCA), LES, National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and others.
