DC Chapter Upcoming Event

Chapter Homepage

The LES-Greater Washington, DC chapter is pleased to present the following luncheon presentation:

Date:
November 6, 2007

Time:
12:00 - 1:30 p.m.

Speakers:
John Mallonee, Esq.

Topic:
Lessons for the Licensing Executive:  A Review of the IP Issues that Led Beleaguered Vonage to the Brink of Bankruptcy

Vonage is a public company that has used disruptive technology to challenge the core business of traditional telecom providers.  Verizon, Sprint and AT&T have all responded by suing Vonage for patent infringement.  Vonage’s stock has trended downwards, but has experienced much volatility based primarily upon rulings in the patent cases.

This talk will focus on the rulings in those cases, the analysis of the potential for an injunction within the requirements of the eBay case, the strategic effect of decisions made by the participants in the litigation, and the overall impact of choices made about licensing technology to the very existence of this business.

Mr. Mallonee is an attorney with an MBA.  He is a commercial litigator who views litigation and licensing with an eye toward overall corporate strategy, taking into account finance, operations, PR, marketing, and accounting.  After recently working for an intellectual property merchant bank valuing economic damages for IP lawsuits, Mr. Mallonee is uniquely positioned to provide many valuable insights on the underlying issues. He is currently a solo practitioner in maryland providing commercial litigation and business counseling services.
