Alan Ratliff, Partner at The StoneTurn Group

Title:
Intellectual Property damages: where do we stand in 2006 ?

In this lively and informative presentation, Alan Ratliff will highlight recent cases and trends in patent, copyright and trade secret damages litigations across the United States along with strategies for in-house and outside counsel for maximizing or minimizing those damages. In particular, Alan will discuss recent reasonable royalty, lost profit and price erosion decisions from the district courts and the Federal Circuit, along with statutory damage and unjust enrichment decisions from the district and circuit courts.

Speaker Bio:
Alan Ratliff, CPA-JD, is a Partner in the international consulting firm, The StoneTurn Group, where he serves as a consultant and expert witness on financial, accounting, business and valuation issues in litigation, and as a forensic accountant.  Alan has also served as a court appointed Special Master, arbitrator and mediator. 

Alan has his undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting from Baylor (Magna and Summa Cum Laude), and his law degree from SMU (Cum Laude), where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and a managing editor of the Law Review.  Prior to consulting, Alan was a lawyer handling complex commercial disputes and transactions at the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and a law clerk to the Honorable J. Smith Henley of the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit (St. Louis).  In addition to being a CPA for nearly 20 years, as a lawyer Alan is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. 

Alan's recent publications appear in law reviews including the Texas Tech Law Review, Houston Law Review and the Journal of Air Law & Commerce, and periodicals including the Fifth Circuit Reporter, State Bar of Texas Litigation Section's Advocate, ABA's IPL and Litigation Section newsletters, The Trial Lawyer, IP Litigator, and Journal of Commercial Biotechnology.  Alan has served as an adjunct professor or guest lecturer at programs offered by Baylor University, Boston University, The University of Houston, South Texas College of Law, The University of Texas and Virginia Tech, and made presentations at the Dallas, Houston, Louisiana, New Orleans and New York IP Bar, Texas State Bar and ABA IP litigation section group meetings, IPO, and California and Texas CPA Societies.
