We are excited to offer an evening networking reception for the Washington, DC Chapter, and also offer a panel discussion on a hot area of patent law: the future of eligibility under section 101.
Please join us for scenic views (weather permitting), delicious hors d'oeuvres, and networking at a premier event for the Washington, DC LES Chapter. The Maryland LES Chapter and any others are also invited. Also, a new drink, the Patentini, a potent potable for patent people, will be unveiled.
Our Panelists for the Evening
John Duffy, George Washington University
Kaz Kazenske, Microsoft
Paul Roberts, Accenture
"Billski, Nuitjen and Beyond: Section 101 in the Crosshairs"
The patent system has been under assault for some time from a variety of directions. The next venue is likely to be the most fundamental: what can be patented? With the advent of software, ecommerce, business methodologies and various other emergent technologies, the ramifications of a decision in this area will likely resonate for decades. Our panelists include GW Professor John Duffy, Kaz Kazenske of Microsoft and Paul Roberts of Accenture (additional panelists including USPTO officials have been invited) to discuss what is in store as Section 101 cases percolate up to a Supreme Court that is rather skeptic of the patent system.
