Kaz Kazenske, Microsoft
James Crowne,  American Intellectual Property Law Association

Topic:
The future of software, business method and emerging technology patenting

The Federal Circuit's October 30, 2008 decision In re Bilski has caused quite a stir and controversy about what the court exactly said. Many read the decision as abolishing software and business methodologies, others see it as an evolving standard leaving room for these innovations. The impact, however, on procuring patent protections on future innovations, particularly emerging technologies, is in doubt. Professor John Duffy, Tom Krause from the Patent Office, Kaz Kazenske from Microsoft, Jim Crowne from the AIPLA and others from industry and the Patent Office (invited) will address these and other issues as the Bilski case moves toward Supreme Court review.
