Chapter Homepage

Date:
December 8, 2004

Time:
4:00 to 5:30 pm

Location:
Patton Boggs LLP
1660 Lincoln Street
Suite 1900
Denver, CO 80202

Program:
The Truth About Licensing

For many, talk about intellectual asset management suggests the classic "stick and carrot" approaches to licensing, large patent portfolios, finding infringers and forcing them to pay royalties, cross-licensing arrangements, or the elusive gold found through the esoteric practices of computerized patent mining.

However, these approaches are not viable for any but the largest of technology players. So does that mean that intellectual asset management is also not an option for any but the largest companies and only through classical licensing?

Dr. Moore will identify the changing economic paradigms and isolate the theoretical principles behind the successes in patent heavy companies, and demonstrate how these principles can be applied to small and mid-sized enterprises, with or without patents, to deploy other knowledge-based assets to deliver marketplace success and competitive advantage.

Speaker:
Dr. Lindsay Moore
President and CEO, KLM, Inc.

Dr. Moore is the founder and CEO of KLM, Inc., a management consultation firm located in Boulder, Colorado, U.S.A., that specializes in strategy, planning, branding, marketing, knowledge management, and the management of intellectual capital assets such as brands, intellectual property, and organizational capital.

Dr. Moore has worked in the fields of strategy, branding, and intellectual assets for over thirty years. She was one of the original founders, and later the General Manger of Strategy and Innovation, at Celestial Seasonings, Inc., an international specialty tea company, where she managed strategic planning, a vast portfolio of intellectual property, and developed a brand worth variously from $400 million to $800 million dollars (U.S.).

Dr. Moore has served as a keynote speaker at numerous national and international conferences, speaking on strategic topics. During 2002, Dr. Moore co-taught a course, with Denver attorney Lesley Craig from Townsend and Townsend and Crew, on "Intellectual Capital and Intellectual Property" at the University of Denver School of Law. Dr. Moore and Ms. Craig are teaching "Intellectual Asset Management" at the George Washington University Law School during the spring semester of 2005.

Dr. Moore is presently preparing two books for publication, the first on the nature of thinking and the limits of knowledge, and the second, with co-author Lesley Craig, on the problems and prospects of contemporary intellectual asset management.
