"Meeting the Challenges of Economy Diversification"
Presented by:
Pamela Freeman, TEC Edmonton
Michael Lounsbury, University of Alberta School of Business
One of our highest priorities as a province is to develop a high technology knowledge based economy. The scientific and engineering expertise at the University of Alberta makes it a core resource to catalyze the diversification of our economy by providing foundational technologies for industry and skilled human resources to develop those industries. Part of the challenge is that while the UofA has a large endowment of scientific talent, our ability to translate scientific and technological inventions into marketable products, vibrant new enterprises, and economic growth and development is still in its infancy. TEC Edmonton has been at the center of helping to fill this gap and in partnership with the UofA School of Business, many new initiatives are underway to address gaps that lie between technology development and the creation of new products, organizations and markets.
In this presentation, Pamela Freeman (TEC Edmonton) and Michael Lounsbury (UofA School of Business) will discuss some of these recent initiatives that have already begun to yield fruit. They include many exciting changes at TEC Edmonton, the creation of the new Ingenuity Enterprise program, The creation of the new Technology Commercialization Centre at the School of Business, and developing initiatives such as CREATE that will focus on developing more business savvy individuals who are also literate in science and technology.
