"Gene Patents: Real Evidence of Real Problems?"
Presented by:
Timothy Caulfield, LL.M.
Research Director, Health Law Institute, University of Alberta
Abstract:
Despite being common practice for
decades, the idea of patenting human genes continues to stir controversy. The
more the general public learn about biotechnology patents, the less they like
them. Is this skepticism justified? What are the social issues
associated with human gene patents and is there evidence to support the concerns? In
this discussion, Timothy Caulfield will explore the several of the most commonly
stated concerns associated with gene patents.
