We are honored to have Dr. Martha J. Connolly share insight into the role that academia and government play in encouraging intellectual property development and technology transfer. Dr. Connolly will discuss the Maryland Industrial Partnerships Program and the University of Maryland's efforts to enable technology commercialization by funding academic-industrial collaborations. This second meeting of the LES Maryland Local Chapter will be held on the evening of November 11, 2004.

Speaker Introduction:
Dr. Connolly is the Director of the Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS), a program of the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (MTECH). The Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS) program accelerates the commercialization of technology in Maryland by providing matching funds for collaborative R&D projects between companies and University System of Maryland faculty. Dr. Connolly holds BS and MS degrees in Chemistry from Stevens Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University. She was a research faculty member at Johns Hopkins, and later an assistant professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is the author of 36 publications in cardiovascular systems physiology. She is the former Senior Biotechnology Specialist for the State of Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. She was also a founder of Clairus Technologies, Inc. and Director of Business Development at EntreMed, Inc. Dr. Connolly is experienced in business development and technology commercialization in academia, government and industry.

The University of Maryland Golf Course, an oasis within the Washington D.C. Capital Beltway, is an 18-hole, championship golf course with mature trees lining each fairway. The Clubhouse was built in 1999 and is host to a full service golf shop, Mulligan's Bar and Grill, locker rooms and banquet facilities. Nestled along the north side of the University of Maryland, College Park, the golf course is easily accessible for guests from around the metropolitan area. What a great place for a Chapter Meeting!
