The Maryland Chapter Presents

"Not Your Father’s NIH!!"

New Marketing Approaches Drive OTT Licensing of Early Stage Technology

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

March 19 Chapter Event NIH Presentation [ppt]

Almost a quarter of the more than 100 drugs discovered by public sector institutions were discovered and licensed by the NIH.  A panel of NIH OTT licensing experts will tell us how the OTT, with an intramural budget less than that of most major research universities, employs a two-tiered approach to market early-stage technologies and translate them into tangible products.  The panel will highlight successful examples, including the inventor public teleconference and initiatives that utilize the Orphan Drug Act to encourage licensing treatments for rare and neglected diseases.  We’ll also get the inside scoop on other NIH innovations, such as a new partnership web space, that encourage partnering and co-development.

Featured NIH/OTT Panelists:
Steven M. Ferguson, Director, Division of Technology Development & Transfer
Mojdeh Bahar, J.D., Technology Licensing Specialist, Cancer Branch
Ajoy Prabhu, MBA, Marketing Group Leader

Meeting Location:

The Cloister at the NIH

The Cloister at the NIH

The Mary Woodard Lasker Center for Health Research and Education (Building 60), commonly known as the Cloister, was built in 1922 as the cloistered convent of the Order of Visitation.  Completely renovated, the Cloister is truly a gem of the NIH Campus.
