Meeting of the New Maryland Local Chapter

June 16, 2005
at

The Offices of Intellectual Property Management & Finance (IPM&F)
Fells Point: Baltimore, MD

5:30 - 8:30 pm

It is with utmost pleasure that the LES Maryland Chapter has the opportunity to welcome Dr. Richard Razgaitis to share with us his insights in licensing. He has had much experience not only in the licensing profession but has also played several prominent roles within the LES organization. We are very fortunate to be able to host him and please bring your copies of his books as he has agreed to sign them for us.

Topic:

" Wow, Whoops and So What? "

Biographies are great teachers of choices and consequences expressed in the lives of the human beings; so too can this descriptive methodology be applied in the context of licensing deals. In this presentation, we will consider "deal biographies" and the lessons learned from the choices made and the resultant consequences. What were the deal-making choices? What were the consequences? What in the world were they thinking?

Twenty (20) IP deals of significant success ("Wow"!) and failure ("Whoops") will be highlighted for study and proposed take-away lessons (Ten (10) "So Whats?"). The scope of cases will span from 1901 to 2001, encompass opportunity licensing and litigation outcomes and span low/no-tech to near/but not rocket science. Finally, infrastructure transformation roles will be considered.

Speaker Introduction:

Dr. Razgaitis is a Senior Consultant at CRAI (formerly InteCap, formerly IPC Group). He has 40 years of experience working with the development, commercialization, and strategic management of technology, more than 25 of which have been spent specializing in the commercialization of Intellectual Property. He has participated in the licensing-in and licensing-out of numerous technologies, including advanced materials, manufacturing systems, medical products and devices, software and communications products. He has negotiated numerous commercialization agreements with clients in the U.S., Europe and the Far East ranging from Fortune 500 to small start-up companies. In addition, Dr. Razgaitis has written three books on technology valuation and deal-making/negotiation. In addition, he is currently the President of the LES Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation established by the Licensing Executives Society of U.S.A. and Canada (LES) to promote public awareness and provide educational resources on the value and importance of licensing all forms of intellectual property.
