All Hands on Deck and Haul Away for

“Networking Piratical”

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

The USS CONSTELLATION
Baltimore's Inner Harbor

Our good mate NOAA's Weather Eye spies near perfect weather Wednesday - the finest day of the week, in fact - "Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.  Northeast wind between 11 and 13 mph."  No foul winds forecast - a beautiful early autumn evening for Networking.  Catering by Sacha's - always to rave reviews.  If you've ever wanted to visit the USS Constellation, you'd be hard pressed to do better - or with better company!

USS Constellation

Climb aboard and help kick off the 2008-2009 season at one of our most popular venues – the USS Constellation.  Last November's voyage was a huge success, and favored with unseasonably fair winds.  This year we're taking no chances on a late season squall!  Catch up with your old shipmates, meet new ones, and learn how one of Maryland's leading companies is fighting piracy at home and on the high seas.  Aaaarrrrggghhh!

The Maryland Chapter is pleased to present

Scott Markow
Senior Patent Counsel

The Black & Decker Corporation

“Countering the Counterfeiters”

How Black & Decker Interdicts Intellectual Property Piracy

Scott B. Markow is Senior Patent Counsel for The Black & Decker Corporation in Towson, Maryland, where he manages all aspects of intellectual property for several business units.  His experience encompasses intellectual property procurement, counseling, licensing, and enforcement, including preventing the flow of counterfeit goods.  He was previously associated with the Washington, D.C. law firms Fish & Richardson P.C. and Covington & Burling LLP, where he worked on matters related to intellectual property and regulation of drugs and medical devices.  Prior to that time, Scott clerked for Hon. Murray M. Schwartz on the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.  Scott received a Juris Doctor, with honors, from Georgetown University Law Center, and a Bachelor of Science, with honors, in mechanical engineering, with a concentration in biomedical engineering, from Cornell University.

Dress:
Business, Business Casual, Pirate!!

That's right, mateys – Maritime Garb is optional – and encouraged – for this “Networking Piratical” Event!  Here are founding Chapter Chair Cathy Vorwald and MIPS Director Martha Connolly at the wheel of a prior meeting in Commanding Style, indeed!

Any seafarer piped aboard in Full Pirate Regalia will be eligible for a Prize Drawing held during Dessert Networking.

Whether your chosen costume favors Ed Teach or a Bow Tie, come as you are, help the Constellation Crew fire off the mighty Parrott rifle, and join in for an evening of great LES Maryland Chapter networking aboard a designated National Historic Landmark.
