Owning and Licensing to
Early Stage Companies"
Tuesday, May 15, 2007
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Date: Tuesday, May 15, 2007
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Presenter:
Gregory C. Brown,
Associate General Counsel, University of Minnesota
Summary:
Universities are shedding their historically passive roles in the development
and commercialization of technology. They are forming for profit business entities.
They are controlling and holding majority positions in these firms. University
representatives sit on their boards. Universities are investing cash in them,
leasing office and lab space to them and taking affirmative steps to help launch
them. These activities raise traditional and novel business, legal and ethical
concerns for the universities participating in these complex arrangements,
for the early stage companies and for the companies'
business and strategic partners. Join use for a lively review of what's happening
at universities and what are some of the emerging best practices, and a discussion
of how these trends affect university licensing generally.
