Technology acquisition by licensing intellectual property from third parties, often called "In-Licensing", is a very effective vehicle to acquire technology for your company. We have an exciting program lined up featuring two speakers Chuck Dennis, Director of CRM IP Portfolio at Medtronic, Inc. and Dan Fagan, CEO of Peptx, Inc. This program spans the perspectives to in-licensing from that of a large, multi-national company to a start-up company.
Chuck Dennis discussed how a Medtronic, a large, multi national company approaches in-licensing. He discussed how in-licensing relates to business strategy, where to look for technology in-licensing opportunities, how to evaluate these opportunities and how to optimize the transfer of the technology. Chuck shared his recent experiences at Medronic and past experience in business development and licensing at 3M.
Dan Fagan discussed how Peptx, a start-up company uses in-licensed technology to create a new business in the medical products industry. Dan shared his experience in business and research management in pharmaceutical businesses. Dan has held positions as the President of Biiologics, LLC, a privately held biopharmaceutical venture developing diagnostics and therapeutics, Director of Synthetech, Inc., a public company specializing in bulk peptide and peptide building block manufacturing, General Manager of Mallinckrodt PharmaceuticalsÕ bulk peptide business and President of Sigma Chemical.
