For many years (20+), Tamar was dedicated to bringing external opportunities to supplement the pipelines of Big Pharma: Squibb, SmithKline Beecham, Bristol Myers Squibb... Six months ago she "jumped over" to the biotech side and joined Lexicon Pharmaceuticals. What does the business development landscape look like from the other side? Does sending Big Pharma executives to "charm school" work? Is the arrogance and NIH syndrome gone?

Tamar's deal sheet covers to more than 100 deals ranging from research collaborations to major co-promotions. She joined Lexicon as EVP Business development in April, 2007. Between 2001 and 2007 Tamar was the SVP of Corporate and Business Development at BMS. 2000 and 2001 Tamar was a business development and strategic planning consultant to biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, served as a Special Limited partner at Care Capital, LLC., a Director for Ariad, NPS, SkyePharma Plc., Targacept as well as several advisory boards. Between 1991 and 2000, Ms. Howson was the SVP and Director of Worldwide Business Development, for SmithKline Beecham. Between 1998 and 2000 she managed SB's $100MM venture capital fund, SR One. Between 1991 and 1993, she served as Vice President and Director, Worldwide Business Development for SmithKline. Before joining SmithKline, Tamar was Vice President, Venture Investments at Johnston Associates, a venture capital firm. Before that, she was Director of Worldwide Business Development and Licensing for Squibb Corporation.

Tamar holds a MBA from Columbia University, a MS Chem E. from City College of New York and BS Chem. E from the Technion in Israel.
