LES-New York Chapter Meeting - January 30, 2008

THE NEW YORK CHAPTER & THE CANADIAN CONSULATE GENERAL IN NYC

Come to our second annual joint meeting between the NY Chapter of LES and the Canadian Consulate of NY. This was our best-attended meeting last year and we are fast approaching matching those numbers this year.  It’s a great opportunity to meet and mingle with the Top 10 Biotech, Top 10 IT, and Top 10 Alternative Energy companies in Canada before and after the panel.

THE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENT CLIMATE AND RELATED CROSS BORDER ISSUES

Moderator:
Richard J. Pinto
Chair, Venture, Technology and Entrepreneurial Services Practices of Stevens & Lee and Managing Shareholder of its Princeton Office.

Rick handles corporate governance, financings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing, and complex commercial agreements for companies in information technology, the life sciences, and a variety of other  industries. He represents both U.S. and foreign-based private equity and venture capital funds, banks and investment banks in connection with investment related transactions. He is also recognized as a mentor and facilitator of entrepreneurship, whether for new companies or for new projects within larger organizations.  Rick serves on the Boards of the New Jersey Technology Council, its IT/Software Industry Group, the New Jersey Entrepreneur's Forum, and the Business Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, for which he also serves as Chair of its Life Sciences Committee and Co-Editor of its "Corporate and Business Law" newsletter.

Randy has varied experience as a research manager at Bell Labs in the area of IP, with both national and international concerns.  He deals business negotiations beginning with non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and ending in licensing agreements, Joint Development Agreements (JDAs), patents, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR), international pre-competitive joint research, technology flight, etc.

John advises entrepreneurs and high growth companies in the life sciences sector to help them realize the commercial value of their discoveries.

Prior to joining MaRS (Medical and Related Sciences), John spent over 13 years advising life sciences investors and evaluated clinical, regulatory, intellectual property and competitive issues in a $1.0 billion life sciences investment fund. He collaborated with stakeholders from all areas of the life sciences continuum, including individual inventors, universities, hospitals, start-up biotechs, small and large pharma. John’s medical research career included studies in the UK, Canada and Japan and explored aspects of immunity in health and disease.
