TOPIC:
"Making Licensing Part of the Business"
"Making licensing part of the business" is a challenging task in an
operating business that traditionally has extracted value by selling
products and investing in capital assets to manufacture them. Such a
business' intellectual assets, more often than not, were created to defend
those hard assets and to be kept close in and not to be shared by others.
Top management's support is absolutely essential in adding licensing as an
additional arm of the business, but it is not enough. Changing behaviors
and business practices requires 'change management' to overcome the inertia
to change and to effect the desired outcome where licensing becomes another
business practice to help the business grow profitably.
