"Open Source Software: Benefits and Challenges"
Wednesday, September 10, 2008
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
OTBC Beaverton, Oregon
The Oregon/SW Washington Chapter of LES cordially invites you to attend its September meeting. The panel will consist of speakers experienced with intellectual property issues in adopting open source software, participating in open source and open standard communities, and using a range of licensing models.
The open source software movement has gained mainstream adherents in recent years (including IBM, Intel, Microsoft) as the promise of rapid enhancements, lowered costs, and supplier independence proved valid. When to leverage open source software and when to choose proprietary approaches are often a strategic decisions. The panel's experience with open source software as a range of legal, business and development models will provide perspective on it's complexities, including the impact of open source adoption on IP asset creation, freedom to operate, and obligations incurred through open source licensing and community participation.
