"Technology Escrows - How to Do Them Right"
What Licensing Professionals Should Know

GUEST SPEAKER:
Jon C. Christiansen, Esq.
Vice President, EscrowTech International, Inc.
Shareholder, Parsons, Behle & Latimer

Moderator: Scott D. Hampton, CPA - Campos & Stratis

Technology escrows have been used for software since the 1970's and such escrows are a common practice today. Increasingly, technology escrows are now being used by licensing professionals and attorneys for other forms of technology - including chemical formulas, medical devices, electronics, health care and other areas. This presentation provides legal information and practical guidance relevant to escrows and will enable you to make informed decisions and provide competent advice. Common mistakes and best practices will be addressed. We will also explore some of the creative ways in which prominent law firms and venture capitalists are using technology escrows and IP archives. Sample forms, articles and other materials will be provided.

Jon Christiansen is a technology and intellectual property lawyer and a frequent speaker on licensing and technology law issues. He is one of the founders of EscrowTech, a Utah company that is now one of the best known technology escrow companies in the world with many Fortune 500 clients. He has been as an adjunct professor of computer and Internet law at the B.Y.U. School of Law. He annually teaches a "crash course" in licensing and computer system acquisitions to medical informatics students at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Mr. Christiansen was recently selected by Utah Business Magazine and his attorney peers as one of "Utah's Legal Elite."
