Technology Standards and Their Impact on Valuation and Licensing Revenues
FEATURED PANELISTS:
Marty Foltyn – Moderator BitSprings Systems
Ron Katznelson - Founder Broadband Innovations, Inc.
Howard Asher - Life Sciences Information Technology Institute
Dave Kemper - IBM Software Americas
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Having your company’s technology adopted as an industry standard can
catapult the potential value and success of your company from a struggling
start up to a Fortune 100. Companies like Qualcomm and others built incredibly
successful businesses by carefully protecting their intellectual property,
successfully lobbying the standards bodies to adopt their technology as an
industry standard and then setting up licensing toll booths to fund further
development, lobbying, protection and growth. Join our distinguished panel
for a timely discussion of how companies manage to get their technology adopted
as standards in an industry, how standards bodies operate, how to challenge
companies who are successful at getting their technology adopted and the impact
these issues can have on company valuation and licensing revenues.

Ron D. Katznelson, Ph.D., Broadband Innovations -Panelist
Dr. Katznelson is the founder of Broadband Innovations, Inc. (BI), serving
as its Chief Technology Officer and Chairman of the Board. He has over 30
years of experience in electronics related technologies as well as intellectual
property and standards related work. Among his other responsibilities
at BI, Dr. Katznelson was recently responsible for the acceptance by CableLabs®,
a cable company consortium, of BI’s technical RF specification proposals
for adoption in DOCSIS, the industry standard for cable modem applications.

Howard began his career in life sciences in 1969 with Pfizer. He continued
his marketing, sales and product development work with Baxter and Bayer until
1979. Late in 1979 he founded Advanced Bioresearch Associates (ABA) which grew
to be the premier Life Sciences ~ FDA Regulatory Affairs consulting firm for

regulatory approval for hundreds of medical products, including drugs, biotherapeutics,
medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics. With a vision of alleviating, through
IT innovation, some of the life science industry’s pain by reducing this
time and cost within the highly regulated life science industry, Howard founded
BioQ Inc. in 1999.

expedite the medical
product development process and developed significant IT intellectual property

managing unstructured data in any language. Howard recently served Sun Microsystems,
Inc, as
its Group Director of Global Life Sciences.
While at Sun, Howard founded the LSIT Global Institute (http://www.LSIT.org).
To establish open source, trusted Life Sciences – IT architectural references
Howard utilizes his 24 years as successful CEO by participating on many Boards
over the years, including BIOCOM, a leading life sciences industrial association,
Quorex Pharmaceuticals, and Stryker Corp., Howmedica, Osteonics and many others.
