Trademarks, trade secrets and know-how represent substantial intellectual property value worldwide. These "other" forms of intellectual property do not get as much attention as perhaps they should. Successful licensing strategies for trademarks, trade secrets and know-how can generate the same if not more revenue than patent and copyright licenses.
On April 27th, the San Diego chapter of LES has the honor to host Mr. Gene Partlow, a widely recognized expert in licensing field, who will discuss how to strategically develop, protect and monetize these "other" forms of IP. Mr. Partlow created the Intellectual Property Business for The Boeing Company. He is a Boeing Vice President and serves as President of the Boeing Management Company, a wholly owned subsidiary that manages the Boeing trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets as a profit center, and is responsible to the Boeing Chief Technical Officer and an internal Board of Directors.
Gene joined Boeing in 2000 from Lucent Technologies, where he led its intellectual property business. During his last year at Lucent, his team of 300 lawyers and business managers generated over $500 million in revenue, filed over 2600 patent applications and raised Lucent to the #3 U.S. company in patents issued. He also served as Senior Transition Executive for the spin-off of Agere Systems. Prior to Lucent, he held numerous Engineering, Finance and Marketing positions in AT&T, Bell Labs and the Illinois Bell Telephone Co., now a subsidiary of SBC Communications, Inc.
Gene received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and MBA (Finance) from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
Gene is an active member, Vice President and Trustee of the Licensing Executive Society (USA & Canada). He has also served on the Boards of Directors of several charitable organizations.
