PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Today’s climate in the biotech industry is definitely on the up-tick. Major deals, in the form of complex licensing, joint development/marketing and M & A activity, are happening in the industry on a frequent basis. This meeting features a panel of prominent Business Development experts who will discuss the rationale behind these deals, the do’s and don’ts of lessons learned, and a glimpse of future trends in technical specialties and financial structures that are emerging in the biotech space. Our panel will also field your questions about this area. Come join us and gain insight into this vital aspect of our industry.
SPEAKER BIOS:
Michael D. Step
Michael Step is Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for Sentarus, Inc. in San Diego, where he manages the company’s growth and development strategies. Before that, he held sales and business development positions with a number of prominent biopharmaceutical companies such as Dura Pharmaceuticals, Hoffmann La Roche, and Syntex, as well as with a couple of non-biomedical companies before that. He has an MBA from University of Southern California and a Bachelors degree from Vanderbilt University.
Jeff Southerton , PhD, MBA
Jeff Southerton is the Senior Director, Strategic Alliances at Pfizer Global Research & Development. He began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in 1988 as a cardiac electrophysiologist at Syntex. Prior to this he received a PhD in pharmacology at the University of Manchester. He joined Pfizer’s Discovery Biology group in 1991 and joined Pfizer’s Strategic Alliances group in 1995 – where he was responsible for a number of deals on behalf of Pfizer’s Discovery Research organization. Since May 2002 he has been responsible for building and leading Pfizer’s Strategic Alliances group in La Jolla.
