LES members should send in their nominations for anyone they think would make a good chair of our local chapter. Nominations will be accepted up through 12 noon on June 13, 2006. Only members in good standing will be entitled to vote. It will be a secret ballot election held prior to the program for the evening with the results being announced at the close of the meeting. Cayer Senior Vice President, Corporate Development Mr. Cayer has more than 20 years of experience in the biotechnology, medical device, and healthcare service industries. Prior to joining Verus, Mr. Cayer was the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President, Business Development at Targeted Molecules Corporation, a venture-backed company pursuing the discovery and development of novel protein therapeutics. Mr. Cayer also worked as a consultant arranging venture financing and corporate partnerships for several start-up companies, and in various positions at Gensia Pharmaceuticals, where he was responsible for the commercialization of a drug/device combination product. Mr. Cayer also worked on the spin-out and venture financing of Gensia’s Automedics subsidiary where he later served as a vice president for commercial and business development activities. Prior to joining Gensia, Mr. Cayer worked in product development management and marketing at Acuson, business planning and development with Castle & Cooke, and management consulting with Booz-Allen & Hamilton. Mr. Cayer received both his B.A. and M.B.A. from Harvard University Jeff Anderman - President of Dynamic Spine, Inc. Jeff Anderman is co-founder and President of Dynamic Spine, Inc. He has spent the last 18 years working in the pharmaceutical and medical device area. Prior to Dynamic Spine he acted as a financial and strategic consultant for a variety of San Diego and Bay Area biotechnology companies. Previously he was President and CEO at Angstrom Pharmaceuticals, where he completed clinical development and Phase I testing of the company’s first product and before that was Chief Financial Officer and later President and CEO at BioQ Inc. Earlier in his career he worked across a variety of functions at Hybritech Incorporated, at that time a subsidiary of Eli Lilly & Co. Mr. Anderman received the B.S. degree in Bioengineering and M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from UCSD and an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA. David Palella Chief Investment Strategist, The Palella Family Foundation and President, BioScience Ventures Inc. David Palella is President of BioScience Ventures, Inc., a San Diego-based consulting firm founded in 1991, specializing in global strategic alliances, business development and M&A advisory in the biopharmaceutical field. David has extensive business expertise in the areas of therapeutic antibodies & proteins, oncology, autoimmune & infectious diseases, and specialty pharmaceuticals. He is also a private investor and holds stock positions, warrants or options in approximately 10 private American biotech companies. David is also the originator, organizer and chair or co-chair of such first-in-class events as Strategic Research Institute’s (SRI’s) “Trends in Antibody Dealmaking & Financing” and SRI’s “Specialty Pharma Corporate Development Global Summit” conferences, as well as International Business Forum’s (IBF’s) “Venture Investing Trends in Biopharmaceuticals Conference”, and GTCBio’s “Anti-viral/microbial Partnering & Dealmaking Summit”. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of IBC’s Drug Discovery Technology (DDT) conference, the largest conference in the world targeting biotech research scientists, as well as a member of the Advisory Board of IIR’s Drug Delivery Partnerships (DDP) conference, the largest conference in the world targeting biotech & pharma companies in the drug formulation and specialty pharma fields. David is also a member of the editorial advisory Council of Specialty Pharma journal, the first and only publication for business people in this field. David has spoken at conferences around the world on competitive and technology trends in the therapeutic antibody/protein, oncology and specialty pharma areas, including in Greece, Cyprus, Australia, Germany, Japan, and at many events in the U.S. David received an MBA, BS and BA from Arizona State University and an MS in Japanese Business Studies (MSJBS) from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii
