THE JUNE MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE HILTON LA JOLLA TORREY PINES
PANELISTS:
Neil Senturia, CEO of Blackbird Ventures
Richard E. Hannah, President & CEO, Medical Development Services, Inc.
Robert P. Cogan, Partner, The Nath Law Group
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The hi tech world is abuzz with companies that are wading through competition,
establishing and safeguarding their own interests, and also finding themselves
at the center of the legal whirlpool. Google's efforts in influencing public
policies, especially regarding "net neutrality," alleged infringement
of copyrights of Viacom and Premier League by YouTube, or the disputes
over obviousness, between Vonage and Verizon, or KSR International and
Teleflex are some such burning examples. In the San Diego area, this sector
has seen some acquisitions such as those of nPhase, LLC by Qualcomm, Geo-Spatial
Technologies by SAIC, SurfControl by Websense, and the buy of Broadband
Innovations by Motorola.
How will the hi tech sector continue to foresee value creation? Will
pay-per-action strategies reduce fraud, and ensure higher returns on investments?
What's next? Will Gracenote's (Yahoo) licensing of lyrics and payment of
music publishers set a new trend as a win-win situation? How may further
possible buyouts/mergers, for example, between giants such as Dow Jones
and News Corp., and Yahoo and Microsoft change the face of the earth? Which
segment of the hi tech sector will see investments streaming in?
How will the latest developments in the law affect issuance of patents,
tech transfer or business development activities? How might companies find
protection against infringement lawsuits regarding their inventions that may
be copied and installed abroad?
To get the latest update on these issues, as well as to engage in stimulating
conversations with experts and colleagues alike, please join us at the
Licensing Executives Society Meeting on June 19, 2007!
