"Current Biotech Industry Drivers and Strategies –

Business Development in the Era of M&A "

Tuesday, October 7, 2008
6:00-8:00 p.m.

AT THE

HILTON LA JOLLA TORREY PINES

Description:
Mergers and Acquisitions have dominated the recent headlines and this trend looks to continue.  Broader economic challenges including the credit crunch, recession fears, and a depreciated US dollar have combined with industry specific issues such as increased regulatory scrutiny and lackluster pipelines to produce a perfect storm that may inundate the sector for years.  M&A provides a short term solution, strengthening storylines via consolidation, but it is clearly not the answer to the industry’s woes in the long term.  Biotech must persevere with business development, but what business development strategy is optimal for this purpose?  What lessons have we learned from the past, and what partnership models are available today that can position companies to survive the current challenges and succeed in better times?
