Hot Topics in IP Licensing:

  • Using Content from and in Online Communities;
  • Google Library Project;
  • Patent Licensing in the Wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s MedImmune v. Genetech Decision

The presentation will take the form of an interactive discussion on key issues surrounding: licensing and content on community websites such as MySpace or YouTube; the copyright and licensing debate surrounding the Google library project, and finally, the implications for patent licensing of the recent MedImmune v. Genentech Supreme Court decision regarding the ability of patent licensees to challenge the validity of their licensors' patents. Registrants are encouraged to send their questions on these topics in advance to Simmone Misra at smisra@microsoft.com.

Mark Wittow is a partner in the K&L Gates Intellectual Property Group, focused on transactions and litigation concerning the acquisition, development, marketing and distribution of computer–related technologies and other types of intellectual property and electronic commerce issues.

Mark prepares and negotiates a broad array of domestic and international technology development, licensing and acquisition agreements. He also advises technology, financial services, media and other companies on mergers and asset dispositions and due diligence, Internet commerce including privacy and copyright, trade secret and trademark matters, and export licensing. He also assists authors, filmmakers, musicians and artists with licensing, publication and distribution of their works. Mark is a graduate of Harvard Law School (1988) and Hampshire College (1977). 

K&L Gates is graciously providing lunch and parking for this event.
