TITLE:
EARLY STAGE TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES - Licensing and Financial Issues
Licensing and financing early stage startups need not be a daunting
process. Understanding the needs and concerns of all stakeholders is
key towards successfully negotiating an effective license agreement
that
will ultimately help steer the company in the right direction.
Through
a panel discussion, some of the key licensing and financial issues
pertinent to founders, investors, and company executives will be
presented.
SPEAKERS:
Jenny Chu Steinberg is a partner in the Toronto office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP who practises securities and corporate law, with an emphasis on corporate finance, public and private company mergers and acquisitions and private equity/venture capital in a broad range of industries including technology. In the private equity/venture capital area, she advises both companies and investors.
Andrea Feltham is a partner in the Toronto office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP who practises corporate and commercial law with a particular emphasis on technology and computer law, e-commerce and Internet law and privacy law matters. She advises both vendors and users of technology products and services and assists large and small clients in commercializing, protecting and acquiring intellectual property.
Konrad Powell-Jones is President of OpporTx Inc., a technology commercialization company started 8 years ago. He brings a strong scientific foundation and extensive sales and marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry as well as drawing on experience gained in his more than 14 years in the academic technology commercialization environment in his roles as a commercialization consultant at various Toronto based institutions such as Mount Sinai Hospital; The Innovations Group at University of Toronto; Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Science Centre; the Hospital for Sick Children and the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health. His responsibilities include the selection, patenting, marketing, licensing and starting-up of companies around commercially valuable technologies which result from the research conducted at the University of Toronto and, some of its affiliated teaching hospitals, centres of excellence, other universities and corporations.
