TITLE: Privacy and Customer Data: Key issues for
Canadian Organizations

Many licensing contexts include the exchange and/or use of customer data or
other personal information. This discussion will:
- Provide an overview of privacy compliance in Canada,
- Review agency and outsourcing relationships,
- Examine consent issues
- Consider responsibility for data protection/security and
data breach notification requirements.
Ariane Siegel practises communications and technology law with Gowlings Toronto.
Ariane’s legal practice is focused on advising Canadian and international
clients on
Canadian communications regulation and information technology law matters.
She has a strong interest in the protection of personal information and regularly
advises private sector organizations, including financial institutions, marketing
agencies, retailers and the entertainment industry on compliance with Canada’s
new privacy legislation.
Ariane has also lectured and given presentations on communications law and
privacy to organizations, including the Canadian Bar Association, Insight,
the Canadian Bankers Association and the Canadian Business Telecommunications
Alliance.
