LES Vancouver Chapter Meeting
The Vancouver
chapter of the LICENSING EXECUTIVES SOCIETY invites all LES members and
friends to a presentation on initiatives at the University of BC for new drug development,
specifically therapies from stem cell research. The UBC Industry Liaison
Office is the leading university technology transfer office in Canada for
commercialization of biotechnology innovations.

SPEAKER INFORMATION:
ANGUS LIVINGSTONE: Angus Livingstone is
the Managing Director of the University Industry Liaison Office
(UILO) at The University of British Columbia,
and is President of the University's wholly-owned subsidiary, UBC Research
Enterprises Inc. The UILO conducts the technology transfer
and commercialization at The University of British
Columbia. The UILO's record in securing U.S. patents is unrivalled by any other
Canadian university. UBC currently has over 200 licenses with
companies around the world and has actively supported the creation
of 115 spin-off companies. Since 1988, Angus' duties
have included managing the intellectual property and research
affiliations with UBC teaching hospitals, the national Networks
of Centres of Excellence, and a wide variety of collaborative research projects and technology licenses with industry. Angus Livingstone is a Board Director of the national Stem Cell Network. SCN
is a not-for-profit organization and one of Canada's
22 Networks of Centre of Excellence. It was established in 2001 to advance stem cells research in Canada. SCN plans to carry out a project to establish a new model for the commercialization of university and hospital stem cells research across Canada.
NATALIE DAKERS: Natalie Dakers is Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Drug Research & Development. CDRD
is being developed to promote advanced drug development and
training and enhance the commercialization of drugs discovered in
BC's academic institutions. Natalie Dakers is past Chair of BC Biotech,
and was recently President and Chief Executive Officer of Neuromed
Technologies Inc., a private biopharmaceutical company. Prior to co-founding
Neuromed, Ms. Dakers was a senior manager for life sciences
technology transfer at the University Industry Liaison Office
(UILO) at the University of BC. Natalie is the member of several
Boards, including that of Genome BC.
