TIME: 12:00 to 1:30 - Lunch, presentation, and questions.

PLACE: McCarthy Tetrault
Suite 1300, 777 Dunsmuir St., Vancouver

SPEAKER: Jane Baggott, Partner/Trademark Agent, Gowlings

Mrs Baggott practises exclusively in the area of trademarks, including all aspects of registration, opposition, licensing and rights transfer. She specializes in international portfolio management, but her practice includes the protection of clients' rights at home, and attending to the needs in Canada of foreign clients. A significant component of her practice includes strategic counselling of clients in the development of their trademarks and setting up enforcement, policing and protection guidelines, with emphasis on international exposure.

Mrs Baggott has been a registered trademark agent since 1987, and a partner of Gowlings since 2000. She is a past president of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), and an active member of several intellectual property organizations, including INTA, ITMA, AIPPI and FICPI. Mrs Baggott is the current chair of the Patent and Trademark Association of British Columbia (PTABC). She has lectured on trademark practice and procedures, intellectual asset management and intellectual property portfolio management.

SUBJECT: Trademarks can be an important part of a company's intellectual property, and in some cases they are its greatest asset. Ms. Baggott will discuss what value trademarks have for small and medium companies, how trademarks are procured and maintained, and general pointers on preservation of the marks once registered.
