LES and Alliance Management Group Co-Sponsor Advanced Strategic Alliances for the LES Professional Development Series (PDS)

Why Take This Course

LES has teamed with the Alliance Management Group to bring you an intensive two-day course that teaches managers how to plan, negotiate, and successfully implement collaborative research and product development alliances...while also dealing with the follow-on commercialization issues.

The statistics tell a powerful story:

  • 70% of alliances fail when firms are unskilled in alliance creation or management;
  • 70% succeed when both firms understand the "best practices" of establishing these relationships.
The purpose of this advanced course is to put you in the 70% success category. As research and product development efforts increasingly rely on external partners, your ability to create and manage partnerships is just as critical as your ability to create and manage internal projects.

Alliance negotiations stumble when team members try to resolve conflicting objectives, struggle with poorly defined intellectual property rules, and deal with both cooperative and competitive issues. Even well conceived alliances face implementation problems such as unanticipated conflicts, ineffective communications, and complex inter-firm decision-making.

About This Course

Advanced Strategic Alliances is an interactive workshop designed to help you create and manage productive, profitable and mutually beneficial strategic alliances. You will experience tools, metrics and techniques that leading alliance companies use to create and manage their relationships.

Alliance Simulator™
You will learn the use of the Alliance Framework tool, the best practice for planning and negotiating research and product development alliances. The Alliance Framework will be applied in the Alliance Simulator™ - a rigorous, experiential exercise in which you create a complex international alliance between a small start-up and an established firm. All the detonators in alliance planning and negotiation are found in the Alliance Simulator. You will learn to use a set of proven tools inside the Alliance Implementation Program to get a new alliance off to a fast start and to deal with inevitable implementation conflicts. In addition, you will have the opportunity for feedback from the instructors and other participants on your own specific alliance challenges. Most importantly, you will leave with an action plan to implement immediately upon return to your office.

LES Professional Development Series
This course is one of several in the Advanced Level of the Licensing Executives Society's Professional Development Series (PDS) and meets one of the requirements for completing the Advanced PDS curriculum. Advanced Strategic Alliances will be held in Boston, June 10-11.
