PDS Workshops

LES is offering 2 Intermediate level workshops at the Spring Meeting:

PDS 203 Workshop (VALUATION)
PDS 204 Workshop (NEGOTIATION AND ETHICS)

LES Education presents PDS Workshops at each LES Annual and Seasonal Meeting at the Intermediate Level. These offerings are an extension of our Education Calendar which also includes the robust survey of the Licensing Profession, our Tech Transfer Seminar, our comprehensive curriculum directed to licensing in the broader context of intellectual asset management, the Professional Development Series, and our LES Industry Alliance education offerings, currently with BIO.

These Intermediate PDS Workshops are open to all meeting registrants on a spaceavailable basis. Students interested in attending these Workshops register by contacting the LES Education Director, Dr. Vicki Hancock. Attendance at these workshops qualifies a student for Intermediate credit toward the LES Certificate of Completion for Licensing Professional Development. Additional information about the Professional Development Series can be found in the Education section of the LES Web site.

PDS Intermediate Intellectual Asset Management Workshop
IAM 203 Valuation
Thursday, May 11, 2006
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Valuation of early stage technologies in licensing transactions requires a blend of technical and experiential knowledge, and valuation at this stage requires skilled management of high levels of uncertainty. This PDS Intermediate Workshop will focus on the valuation of early-stage technologies and various contexts of valuation, such as collaborative development, new company valuations, and strategic alliances. The class will focus on one or more case studies that develop the student's judgments around valuation methodology selection in various selected contexts. Concepts presented will also help students consider more intermediate valuation concepts, such as industry comparables research, attribute rating systems, and discounted cash flow approaches, while integrating market opportunity analysis, competitive alternative assessment, and risk analysis.

Instructors: PDS Intermediate Faculty are selected from LES Membership

PDS Intermediate Intellectual Asset Management Workshop
IAM 204 Negotiation and Ethics
Friday, May 12, 2006
2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Owners of early stage technologies are often disadvantaged when negotiating with a more commercial or senior partner. The licensing executive is challenged with optimizing deal quality and deal cycle time for the IP owner, and negotiating skill has direct impact on these measures. This PDS Intermediate Workshop will build upon the case studies and contexts presented in the IAM 203 Valuation Workshop, applying strategic principles and best practices for licensing negotiations in hypothetical settings. Students and instructors will both present and evaluate the effectiveness of negotiation techniques used. Students will also observe and consider the ethical considerations of various negotiation techniques described.

Instructors: PDS Intermediate Faculty are selected from LES Membership
