8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Nanotechnology is portrayed as one of the most promising future technologies. The patent databases show thousands of patents and applications in which the word "nano" is used and both the European Patent Office (EPO) and the United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO) have set up special art units and/or working groups to look into the granting procedure. The workshop will have representatives from the USPTO as well as the EPO to look at their classification and granting policy. Practitioners from Europe will also look at strategies to file quality patents and obtaining licensable inventions.

Licensing's Key Role in Global Innovation
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This course is relevant to the increasing focus and appetite for innovation. The construct used will be that of 'technology-business-IP', which has been demonstrated to be a good one for companies to use that are trying to innovate. The workshop will use real-world stories and data to highlight important points. Key questions to be addressed: 1. What are the key elements and processes of an integrated IP management system? 2. To what extent does my company's IP management system impact how much money my company makes? 3. How can managing IP speed new business development? 4. How does managing IP improve the probability of success for technology development efforts? 5. How does IP management improve the value captured from R&D projects? 6. How does IP management help us anticipate competitive alternatives to our developed technology? 7. How do we protect innovation in light of changing IP enforcement? The Add-On will be conducted with the use of case examples. Small group work will allow time to explore individual company perspectives and nuances. The objective is to enable participants to apply the tools and processes to the technology projects in which they are involved.

Licensing the Future "Staying Young - While Growing Old" The World-Wide Business of Aging
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This exciting day will provide important and beneficial information on not only the aging process but also what scientists and researchers are discovering in how to better maintain the mind and body in the "Art of Aging." This is a huge industry that involves thousands of companies, universities, governments, research labs, etc., who are devoting billions of dollars to find not only the cure for illness that is brought on by aging, but also how to delay the process and conquer dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and the countless other illnesses associated with aging. This emerging industry provides untold fortunes for the creation and licensing of technologies that are emanating from pharmaceutical research labs to government funded R&D. The speakers will provide up-to-the-minute information on what is new and what is coming in this market that is expanding daily. Friday, May 9

Train-the-trainer
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Today launches a one-day version of the LES Fundamentals course. It was the basis of a marketing tool for LES and for Fundamentals that LES South Africa used very successfully. They gave the one-day course several times in various locations of South Africa in order to create a large pool of interested students in Fundamentals. It is also the course that was given with great success in Hong Kong prior to the LESI winter meeting in January in Tokyo. Yvonne Chua succeeded in attracting 70 attendees. You can see the power and the simplicity of offering such a workshop.

For further information please contact Stephanie Silverstein at (703) 299-8207 by April 21st.
