Why Should I Become a Member?
Networking:
LES members enjoy formal and informal opportunities to share information on best practices, trends and the latest licensing resources. With more than 30 local chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, LES offers a full calendar of education and networking events.
Through meetings, educational programs, and ongoing contact, LES brings together a broad range of licensing professionals with common interests and similar professional goals. LES provides members with the ability to respond to a changing business environment, through annual and seasonal meetings.
These networking opportunities are open to all, with LES members receiving substantial discounts.
Education:
Besides outstanding meetings, LES offers two main types of educational programs each year, the Technology Transfer Seminars and the Professional Development Series. Both programs attract individuals and teams span a wide spectrum of job functions and industries and provide an abundance of the premier education opportunities for which LES is know. What are the dues and types of memberships available?
Active Members
Any person of good ethical reputation and business affiliation who subscribes to the Society's rules of conduct for members and who in business or professional activities has significant responsibility for the licensing or transfer of industrial or intellectual property rights, or for other substantial action relating thereto, shall qualify as an active member.
Membership dues for an active member are $225 per year. Applications approved on or before September 30 are considered to be for the current calendar year and dues are not prorated. Applications approved after October 1 are considered to be for the remainder of that calendar year and the following calendar year.
Student Members
Any person not qualified under any other class of membership who is regularly enrolled as a graduate or undergraduate student of an accredited college, university, or post-graduate school and has a bona fide interest in the profession shall qualify as a Student Member of the Society, an shall be elected in accordance with Article 2.5. Such membership shall continue until the close of the fiscal year of the Society in which such person ceases to meet such qualifications.
Membership dues for an student member are $35 per year. Applications approved on or before September 30 are considered to be for the current calendar year and dues are not prorated. Applications approved after October 1 are considered to be for the remainder of that calendar year and the following calendar year.
Associate Member
Any person who has been active member of the Society for at least five consecutive years, but is no longer actively engaged in licensing, or actively relating thereto, may be elected by the Membership Committee as an associate member.
Membership dues for an associate member are $112.50 per year. Applications approved on or before September 30 are considered to be for the current calendar year and dues are not prorated. Applications approved after October 1 are considered to be for the remainder of that calendar year and the following calendar year.
What is the Approval Process for Membership?
Once your application is received you will be sent a confirmation letter if there aren't any problems with your application (you will be notified at this time of any problems with the application). Complete applications are then sent to the Trustee for New Membership for consideration.
You will receive a letter and new member kit (which contains the annual LES membership directory) approximately 30 days after your application is approved. Applicants approved by the Trustee will have their name printed in the next available issue of Viewpoints. Publication of your name may take one to two issues. Thirty days after publication of your name, if there are no objections, you will be accepted.
