LES View Points Article from CEEM Sector December 2008
Name Change – We are Now the Chemicals Energy Environment & Materials (CEEM) Sector!
We have expanded our Sector’s name to now include the environment. Not only is this area ripe with licensing opportunities, it is a key issue of concern globally. With the name change, we are now more closely aligned with the objectives of LESI’s CEE Committee and understand that importance of looking not only at issues from a USA/Canada perspective but on an international basis too. It also fits well within practice areas our membership base, who are already involved in or moving towards environmentally related business concerns.
LES 2009 Annual Meeting: CEEM Sector Highlights
Thanks to everyone who attended the annual LES Meeting in Orlando. It was a productive meeting for learning, networking and providing feedback into CEEM’s membership needs. We want to personally thank everyone who attended the CEEM Sector meeting and participated in the brainstorming session to help us highlight issues in which our members would like the Sector to focus.
As you know, our Sector is very broad and diverse, and throughout the year we try to cover the key areas our members show interest. For the Annual Meeting workshops, some of the highlights included the mini-plenary on open innovation as it relates to our Sector as well as partnering strategies for emerging biofuels. We extend many thanks to all of our speakers for their efforts and presentations.
CEEM Royalty Rate Study
We are pleased to announce our Sector’s roll out of a royalty rate study by our members for our members. The results will be available free of charge to all LES members and will be based on CEEM royalty rate information gathered for the years 2007 and 2008.
This study will be staffed by a team of CEEM volunteers, lead by CEEM member David Leathers. The team is currently in the process of defining the framework for the project, which will involve developing the study scope and objectives, survey questions, marketing/recruitment of members to participate and data analysis.
We want to extend many thanks to Glenn Wheeler and Jim McCarthy for advice and assistance in getting the study off the ground. Jim is chair of the Healthcare Royalty Rate Study, first published in 2008, and Glenn is a volunteer for the same as well as a LES Trustee.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about the study, please contact David Leathers at dleathers@huronconsultinggroup.com.
Upcoming Winter Meeting – San Antonio, February 25-27.
