On behalf of the 100 plus members of the 2004 Planning Committee, we invite you
to attend the 40th Annual Meeting of the Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and
Canada), at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel, October 17-21, 2004. This may
be LES's most well-attended annual meeting ever and we welcome you and your
colleagues to join us in Boston for our "Solutions Through Synergy" meeting.
Program
The meeting will begin and end with a variety of topical add-on sessions on Sunday,
October 17 and Thursday, October 21. The opening plenary session on Monday
morning will feature pairs of leaders of licensing dealmakers. The Tuesday morning
plenary session will include four fabulous speakers: The Honorable Richard A.
Posner, Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit; Raymond V.
Gilmartin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Merck & Co., Inc.; Eric D. Green,
Professor, Boston University School of Law; and Juan Enriquez, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer, Biotechonomy. Wednesday morning concurrent industry sector
mini-plenaries will address issues of importance to society members. Workshops
each afternoon will feature interactive sessions, including a series of new roundtable
discussions.
Tech Fair
The LES Tech Fair will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 19, 12:30-6:00 p.m.
The Tech Fair is a showcase for companies with licensing needs and opportunities,
universities and other research organizations with out-licensing opportunities, and
intellectual asset management service providers. The Tech Fair will include lunch for
meeting registrants and networking opportunities. The Tech Fair brings together
buyers, sellers, and enablers of intellectual assets.
Networking
Outstanding networking opportunities and social activities that complement high
quality programming are hallmarks of LES meetings, and the Boston meeting
will continue this fine tradition. Boston networking events have been designed
to promote synergy of meeting registrants coming together to make contacts and
find solutions to their intellectual asset management challenges and opportunities.
Networking events in Boston will include a Sunday evening opening welcome
reception at Skywalk on the 50th floor of the Prudential Tower with a spectacular
360 degree view of Boston. Monday night LES will feature a first-ever LES talent
show-cabaret in the informal atmosphere of a lobster bake dinner. On Wednesday
evening, LES will host our traditional elegant dinner dance.
Boston and the surrounding area offer great opportunities for tours and sightseeing.
Planned tours include the Peabody Essex Museum and Salem Witch Museum in
Salem, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Duck Tour of the city and a hosted
cooking event. Space for tours is limited, and early registration is urged. A limited
sports program has been arranged including the traditional tennis tournament and
Fun Run, incorporating parts of the Boston Marathon route including "Heartbreak
Hill." LES provides members interested in playing golf with contact information so
they may make their own arrangements.
International
LESI President Jonas Gulliksson and his wife, Brigitta, will welcome LESI
delegates on Thursday evening, October 21.
Register early
An "early bird" meeting registration of $1,095 is available before August 8, 2004.
On-line registration is available on the LES website: www.usa-canada.les.org.
We anticipate 1,200 registrants, so hotel rooms at the Boston Marriott Copley Place
Hotel will go quickly. All hotel reservations at the Marriott must be received by
September 17, 2004.
