High Technology Add-On Seminar
Add-on 5: How to Use Value-
Chain Analyses to Capture and
Grow the Ripple-Effects Your
Innovation Has Across Your
Company's Business Model
Sponsored by: High Technology Sector
and Intellectual Capital Management
Committee
Cost: $250.00
If you or your clients manage any part
of an IP pipeline, this Add-on is for
you. It will address the "value-chain"
analyses and profit enhancement techniques
used to: (1) identify downstream/
upstream competitive advantage
emanating from company innovation;
and then (2) capture the associated,
high-value intellectual property.
The first half of the Add-on will set
the stage of a practical (and easy to
understand) value-chain analysis.
Gillette's well-known portfolio of
22 patents covering aspects associated
with their triple blade shaver cartridge,
handle, and packaging will explain
the inherent value-chain analysis
undertaken.
The second half of the Add-on will
show the power of value-chain analysis
in action across multiple industries
through an experienced panel of business,
strategic and legal representatives.

IP Ventures Add-On Seminar
Add-on 6: Creating New
IP Ventures: Profiting from
Intellectual Property
Cost: $250.00
Corporations are very cautious about
investing in new technologies, whether
created internally or available from
outside sources, unless they can view
the rewards versus the risk. This Addon
will provide the attendee with a
step-by-step method to measure the
potential return-on-investment through
the entire commercialization process.
Equally important are the various
advantages of creating strategic
alliances and collaborations with
targeted corporations. It will also cover
how to value the IP through the
various stages of the program.
Examples will be provided.
The Add-on will offer enlightenment
on both establishing in-house
programs to motivate employees to be
inventive, but also how to work with
national laboratories and research
organizations that have already spent
millions of government dollars on
discovery, research and development.

Industry/University/Government

Add-on 7: Structuring
Successful International
License Agreements:
A Master Class
Sponsored by: LES (U.S.A. and Canada)
Licensing Office and Structure
Management Committee and LESI
Industry/University/Government
Transactions Working Group
Cost: $250.00
The Add-on is designed to be of particular
interest to experienced practitioners
in university/industry/government
technology transfer ("IUGTT").
Although the goal of the Add-on will
be to focus on key legal issues, it will
do so from a non-lawyer's perspective,
i.e., in the context of obtaining commercial
advantage or avoiding commercial
exposure through proper management
of legal issues by a licensing professional.
LESI involvement will focus
on the diversity of laws and legal systems
that practitioners in IUGTT need
to understand when conducting an
international licensing program. Since
many companies seek to in-license
technology from international institutions,
it is expected that the Add-on
will also be of keen interest to industry
as well as university/non-profit and
government attendees.
Finally, the Add-on will also probe
issues of important U.S. laws relating
to licensing (e.g., The Bayh-Dole Act)
at a level of detail that is meant to
attract experienced practitioners.
