The 2006 Planning Committee invites you to whet your creative appetites at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and Canada), Inc. at the Marriott Marquis Hotel on Times Square in New York City.
The theme of this year's annual meeting is "Create: The Magic of Licensing." We trust that you and your colleagues will leave New York with your creative juices flowing after being stimulated by the very best educational programs and networking opportunities.
Our New York meeting will maintain the LES tradition of high quality programming and educational content as well as outstanding networking and social activities - all with an international flavor reflecting the New York City venue.
Program
The meeting will begin and end with a variety of topical add-on Seminars on Sunday, September 10 and Thursday, September 14.
This year's plenary sessions really measure up! We begin on Monday morning with a panel of representatives of leading investment firms, who will share perspectives on the innovation funding life cycle, from:
- Pfizer Venture Fund
- Tall Oaks Capital
- In Q Tel
- Pagemill Partners
- LifeScience Partners
Tuesday morning will kick off with Nancy Mathis, winner of the Outstanding Young Canadian Award in Innovation. She will be followed by Jonathon Fleming of Oxford Bioscience Partners, who will provide an overview of business opportunities in the health care sector. Peter Detkin of Intellectual Ventures will share what he has learned from his experience at Intel. Bill Merritt of InterDigital Communications Corporation will speak on "The Little Engine that Could." The morning will wrap up with former Senator Birch Bayh exhorting us not to turn back the clock to pre-Bayh-Dole days.
On Wednesday morning, industry sectors will host mini-plenary sessions, geared specifically toward the topics unique to their industries. In-depth learning takes place each afternoon in smaller workshops focused on daily issues in licensing.
Tech Fair
The LES Tech Fair will be held Tuesday afternoon, September 12, between noon
and 6:00 p.m. The Tech Fair is a show case for companies with licensing needs
and opportunities, universities and other research organizations with out-licensing
opportunities, and intellectual asset management service providers. The Tech
Fair will include lunch for all meeting registrants and networking opportunities
including a coffee break and reception. The Tech Fair brings together buyers,
sellers, and enablers of intellectual assets.

Networking
As the old saying goes - "it's all about who you know." Networking at LES meetings complements the high quality programming, and this year will be no different. Networking events are designed to help meeting registrants make contacts and find solutions to their intellectual asset management challenges/opportunities while leaving you time to enjoy the varied and unique New York venues - the museums, art galleries, and Broadway theatres - at your hotel doorstep.
Networking events will include Sunday evening's Welcome Reception in the hotel overlooking the lights and excitement of Times Square. Monday night, Autumn in New York - right in the hotel again - will provide entertainment and foods reflecting the myriad cultures that have settled in New York over the years.
On Tuesday evening, attend a smaller reception with colleagues in your industry sector, and the rest of the evening is free so you can make your own individual dinner plans. LES will host our traditional elegant dinner/dance on Wednesday evening. New York offers great opportunities for tours and sightseeing that can be arranged directly with the hotel concierge.
A limited number of tickets have been obtained for the hit Broadway musical "Wicked" and will be available on a first come, first served basis to registrants.
International
LES U.S.A.-Canada will once again host the LES International Delegates meeting. LESI President Peter Chroczeil and his wife, Beatte, will welcome LESI delegates Thursday, September 14 for the official opening of the International Delegates' meeting.
In addition, we've added several International Workshops on Wednesday. For those International Delegates who wish to access these and the other Wednesday events (including the closing dinner), a special registration will be available. Check out page 10 for further programming and networking opportunities for International Delegates.
"Start spreading the news..." - and we'll look forward to seeing you in New York!
