Enthusiastic Response To Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) Program

Hundreds of experienced licensing professionals applied to receive the CLP designation after the program launch last fall. Licensing professionals who applied before December 31, 2007 could obtain the CLP designation without taking the examination provided they meet several criteria demonstrating their experience, expertise, and level of current responsibility for licensing.

ApplicantsThe breakdown of applicants by industry sector is shown in the following chart: Reflecting the global importance of licensing and intellectual property, CLP applications were received from licensing professionals throughout the world, including the following nations: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and the U.S.A.

"We're delighted with the quantity and quality of the applicants for the CLP," said LES President Thomas A. Picone. "The response from experienced licensing professionals demonstrates how important and valuable licensing has become in so many industries. LES is proud to be taking the lead in this important new professional credential, and we look forward to recognizing this first group of certified professionals."

Decisions on these initial applicants are expected to be made by early April 2008, and those earning the CLP will be recognized at the 2008 LES International Conference, May 4-7, 2008, in Chicago, Illinois and during the 44th LES Annual Meeting, October 19-22, 2008, in Orlando, Florida.

The CLP Program Office is now accepting applications and the first comprehensive examination is scheduled for July 2008. The application fee is $995.

Online CLP examination applications are being accepted at the CLP Web site: www.lesclp.org. To qualify as a CLP, you must have a bachelor's degree, at least 3 years professional experience in the licensing field (and be employed in the licensing field at the time of application), and pass the CLP Examination.

The first CLP examination will be given during July 2008. Applicants who pass the CLP exam will be announced at the LES 2008 Annual Meeting in Orlando in October.

A second CLP examination will be given in the fall of 2008. Starting in 2009, CLP exams are anticipated to be given each January and July.

Two CLP workshops have been added to the LES Spring Meeting in Chicago. The Certification Team is scheduled to give updates and details for test sign-up.
