Spring Meeting + LES International

Spring Meeting Logo"Licensing Without Borders" is coming to Chicago! This unique event will be built on the dynamic combination of the LES (USA & Canada) Spring Meeting and the 2008 International Conference—the first joint meeting of its kind. The meeting celebrates the fact that the world, indeed, is getting smaller. Or to place it in the realm of licensing, professionals are frequently called upon to develop and manage intellectual property around the globe, practicing in a world with few borders or boundaries to information and collaboration.

LES International President, Chikao Fukuda, along with LES President, Thomas Picone, and 2008 International Conference Chair, James Sobieraj, will open the meeting with a gracious invitation for all to be part of this one-of-a-kind experience. The international flavor of the programming will address the latest developments in licensing legal and business issues around the world. Networking will also get a boost from the mingling of international attendees with LES members. Sunday night’s Welcome Reception has been duly dubbed "The LES World’s Fair."

The Leaders of Licensing
The Meeting will take off running with a muchanticipated Monday morning plenary: Global Leaders of Corporate Licensing. The session features a panel of some of the most successful and influential executives in the licensing world. Senior IP executives will represent companies such as Abbott Laboratories, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Hitachi, Infineon, Merck, Microsoft, Pfizer, Philips, Procter & Gamble, and Schering Plough. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn what has made these licensing programs so successful, what challenges they face, and what they see as the future of licensing and new business models. A question and answer period will be part of this exciting session.

Jim SobierajLES Zeitgeist, "Spirit of the Time"
Tuesday’s featured session is sure to be the LES Zeitgeist program, which will highlight timely licensing issues and present a range of views designed to promote discussion among conference participants. Licensing Zeitgeist panelists will debate different models for licensing and IP commercialization, comparing obstacles and opportunities across regions, industries and jurisdictions.

Roundtable discussions will follow the panel presentation and are designed to explore the areas and issues in more detail. This interactive format will allow participants to change rooms and tables in order to garner the most pertinent information for their particular licensing practice.

International Workshops, Add-Ons and Networking
This meeting will be rich with learning and networking opportunities. Wednesday morning’s session is filled with mini-plenaries representing content provided by the varied LES sectors. LES International Conference workshops will also take place throughout the meeting with topics that include Big Pharma and Technology Acquisition, Managing IP in Global Business, Recent High Profile Partnering Deals, and Digital Content in a Borderless World, just to name a few.

In addition to the myriad of networking that happens during a meeting, and the benefit of networking opportunities with international attendees, the city of Chicago will place the world at your doorstep. Tours highlighting tastings, culture activities and even the Blues are offered. Conference Chair Jim Sobieraj points out that attendees can appropriately wear their Chicago Cubs gear around town, since it will yet be too early in the season for the Cubs to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Come to Chicago and see the world of LES open up to a unique meeting experience. For registration and information, go to www.usa-canada.les.org/meetings/ 2008spring/.
