New Alliances Lead To Breakthrough Webinars In order to take the benefits of LES education to new audiences, Vice President of Adminstration Peggy Moizel is forging innovative alliances with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the State Department. The result? Two important webinars regarding intellectual property rights in China took place in early March. A webinar is a real-time interactive seminar conducted using the World Wide Web, in which both the audience and presenters participate. The U.S. Department of Commerce webinars attracted 3,500 individuals, with the primary audience being U.S. officials and diplomatic staff at consulates and trade offices worldwide. Participants were able to hear the presenters and call in via the telephone or type their responses and questions. Peggy Moizel, President of IP Compliance Management, and Paul Germeraad, President of Intellectual Assets Inc., conducted the March 1 program. The hour and a half webinar was titled, "Analyzing Value of IP Assets and Conducting Audits of Your IP Agreements." The session included a discussion on strategies for businesses in analyzing the value of existing and potential IP assets, as well as an introduction to IP audits to ensure compliance with existing agreements. The second session, held one week later, was titled, "IP Strategies for Negotiating Licensing Agreements and the Realities of Enforcing the Terms of Agreements—Spotlight on China." This time Kimberly Chotkowski, Licensing Executive at Andre-Troner LC, joined Peggy Moizel as a presenter. The discussion focused on managing licensing agreements in China and covered best practices and positive business aspects, as well as preventative measures and solutions to some of the common pitfalls faced in China. The webinars were offered free of charge; however, those participating registered in advance and were provided with a password in order to gain access. A free download of the presentation was made available two weeks after the live session at stopfakes.gov (see China Webinar Series on the Web site). To further reach LES and its members, LES Western Australia highlighted the webinars at their March meeting. Peggy Moizel and Kim Chotkowski were available to answer questions via telephone. LES looks forward to future collaborations that will continue to place the society at the forefront of creating important education programs and making them available worldwide.
