The turnout was extraordinary, with fifty-seven people attending and a number of others who expressed regret that schedules conflicted. The event was organized by the new Chapter Chair, Shawn Pilkington, and Vice-Chair Michelle Girts. Pilkington is Vice President of Business Development for Innovation Asset Group (IAG), an intellectual property management software company based in Wilsonville, Oregon. Girts is the Oregon-based Vice President and Director of Intellectual Property for CH2M Hill, a professional engineering services firm headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The keynote speaker was Russell Parr, an internationally- renowned expert in the field of intellectual property and intangible asset valuation. A booklet recently authored by Mr. Parr entitled Determining Royalty Rates formed the basis of his presentation. Mr. Parr reviewed various methods for deriving royalty rates for primarily technology-oriented IP licensing deals. “There is extraordinary talent in this region and vast untapped IP value,” states Pilkington. “I am grateful to LES for supporting us in this launch.
