A Traveler’s Guide To LES Local Chapters If you crave warm, dry breezes and Tex- Mex is your cuisine, then a trip to the U.S. Southwest is just what you need. This area is one of the fastest growing regions in the U.S. and home to several LES Local Chapters. Travel with us as we visit a few! Welcome to Houston Houston is home to the world’s largest concentration of medical professionals, the world’s largest rodeo, NASA, and several professional sports teams, including the Houston Astros and Houston Texans. Oil and gas are still big business in Houston. LES membership reflects these trends, with energy, medical, industrial and financial industries well represented. With local membership topping out around 200 and meetings attracting 30-50 participants, LES is big in Texas! If you are in Houston, contact Chapter Chair Jeffrey Whittle at jeffrey.whittle@bracewellgiulaini.com and discover all that the LES Local Chapter has to offer. Cultural Mecca in New Mexico
Chapter Chair Nathan Golden is looking to a central location where monthly catered luncheon meetings can be held, as well as the possibility of evening meetings. Every third meeting takes place in the city of Santa Fe, which gives better access to people in the northern part of the state. Many of the licensing executives in the state come from the high tech industry and are employed at Sandia National Labs, Los Alamos National Labs, University of New Mexico, and Technology Ventures Corporation. Some members also hail from the legal sector and private industries. With so many large national laboratories, the area is known for developing technologies to early stage. There are some start-ups spinning out of the national labs, but this is still a largely untapped area. The trip to New Mexico is worth it. Where else can you find rose-colored deserts, broken mesas, snow-capped peaks and vast wilderness, all under a sun-filled sky? When you visit, contact Chapter Chair Nathan Golden, nlgolde@sandia.gov, for current information on this chapter. Chapter Launch—LES Oregon/SW Washington |
